AFTERimage #1 — Concertina explores the transformation of a two-dimensional image into a physical, fragmented portrait. The work begins with a digitally manipulated face, partially obscured and interrupted, suggesting the unstable nature of memory and identity. The image is then translated into paper and reconstructed through a concertina structure, where repeated folds create rhythm, depth and shifting perspectives.

Made from recycled printed paper, the work sits between collage, sculpture and image-making. As the viewer moves around it, the portrait appears to change, emerging and disappearing through the folds. The physical structure becomes an integral part of the image, turning a flat surface into a dynamic, spatial object.

AFTERimage is an exploration of what remains of an image after it has been fragmented, altered and reassembled—and of how memory, like an image, is never entirely fixed.
